Family Guy

Few shows have shown the power of the American Dream and the power of the American People quite like Family Guy.

Remember, this is a show that was cancelled, brought back from the dead, and seems like it will be nearly cancelled every year over some form of controversy or some horrible moment that goes wrong along the way. At the end of the day, what you have is a piece of comedy history that will probably live on for a long time, even if they do stop making new episodes. I feel like I should probably make a joke about it being animated in Korea or something like that at this point, but I won’t.

Seth MacFarlane has always been an interesting character to me. The voices, the talent, the penchant for the old-fashioned, the song and dance, the metaphors. The under-the-table jokes hit me at a time when comedy was starting to mean something to me, and I was very opinionated about it.

I started watching Family Guy when the season would hit DVD. It became a big-ass obsession for a long time. But then I fell out of love with the show, and at this point I only catch episodes late at night on random TV channels when I’m looking for something to make me laugh and keep me awake. Someday I’m going to sit down and make my way through the whole series, much like I did with South Park. Someday.

The one thing that I always loved about Family Guy, and still do, is the voices. If you haven’t heard the story about Patrick Warbuton’s own mother boycotting the show, you should check it out. I believe that you can find it on his episode of The Nerdist. You totally should.
